We want to thank everyone who attended The Hour-A-Day Study Club’s 90th anniversary celebration on Saturday November 9th, 2024. It was a night filled with love, community, reflection, and liberation.
In her first public appearance since experiencing some health challenges, The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, former Governor General of Canada gave a speech inspiring us to recognize we are in a period of time to act. With world wide far right agendas on the rise, blatant racism experienced by so many, misogynistic view points and attacks on the rise, Madame Jean charged us to recognize in VP Kamala Harris’ stance that “this is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves” 
reminding us education is the key to freedom. The ladies of The Hour-A-Day Study Club know all too well the need to roll up our sleeves.
Everyone in the room needed to hear that message.
We were honoured to distribute $30000 to 13 deserving scholarship recipients this year. The 15 founding mothers of The Hour-A-Day Study Club had the vision and foresight to create the scholarship fund, and some 90 years later the members of The Hour-A-Day Study Club continue to uphold that legacy. There were so many former HADSC scholarship recipients present and it warmed our heart.
Thank you to Kionna Wilson who sang an amazing Black National Anthem. Teajai Travis who gave the event a heartbeat with both his drum and spoken word performance. Tiffany Jean Gooch for keeping us on track as the Mistress of Ceremonies, Jordyn Taylor for creating visuals for the event, Jazzus for their excellent music, Crystalized Moments Crystal Bryan for photography, DJ Lamar Nelson for the soundtrack to our guests’ joyful dancing.
